Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Urban Index (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use our website and services. It is designed for Australian users and aligns with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Last updated: April 2026.
1. Who we are
Urban Index operates an online service that provides indicative address-based livability and connectivity scores and related outputs. The site may be reached at our published domain (for example urbanindex.net).
Contact: For privacy questions or requests, use the contact details published on the site or in correspondence we provide to account holders.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to personal information we collect through the website, authentication flows, paid report purchases, support enquiries, and related communications. It does not apply to third-party sites or services linked from Urban Index, which have their own policies.
3. What personal information we collect
We may collect the following types of information, depending on how you use the service:

- Query and analysis data: addresses or location text you submit, derived coordinates, and analysis outputs we generate (which may be associated with your account where applicable).
- Payment-related data: we use third-party payment processors. We do not store full card numbers on Urban Index servers; we may receive limited billing metadata (for example transaction references, product purchased, and customer email as supplied to the processor).
- Technical data: IP address, device/browser type, approximate region, timestamps, and diagnostic logs needed to operate and secure the service.
- Communications: content you send us (for example support emails) and our replies.
4. How we collect information
We collect personal information directly from you when you:

- run an analysis or request a report;
- complete a purchase through our payment provider;
- contact us; or
- browse the site (technical data via server logs, analytics, and similar technologies).
We may also receive information from service providers acting on our instructions (for example authentication, hosting, payments, or email delivery).
5. Why we use and disclose personal information
We use personal information for purposes including:
- providing, maintaining, and improving the Urban Index service;
- authenticating users and securing accounts;
- processing payments and delivering purchased reports or entitlements;
- caching and retrieving analysis results to improve performance and cost efficiency;

- aggregated or de-identified analytics to understand usage trends.
Indicative outputs:Scores and maps are informational. They are not professional advice. See our Terms & Conditions for limitations.
6. Disclosure to third parties
We may disclose personal information to:
- Infrastructure and service providers (hosting, database, auth, email, analytics) who process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards;
- Payment processors (for example Stripe or Lemon Squeezy) to complete transactions you initiate;
- Mapping, places, transit, and environmental data providers where we send query parameters (such as coordinates) necessary to obtain third-party datasets used in analysis; and
- Authorities where required or permitted by law.
7. Overseas recipients
Some service providers may store or process data in countries outside Australia (including the United States and the European Economic Area). Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protections consistent with applicable law.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we hold. No online service is completely secure; you should protect your account credentials and devices.
9. Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, and reporting requirements. Cached analysis data may be retained for a defined period to balance performance and cost; retention is described at a high level in our technical documentation and may change over time.
10. Access, correction, and complaints
Under the APPs, you may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct inaccurate information. Contact us using the details on the site. We will respond within a reasonable period.
Australian Privacy Principles: If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with us first. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) — see oaic.gov.au.
